Book Giving Day

A reading activity organized to celebrate Armenia’s Book Giving Day, encouraging members to discover new books and share their love of reading.

What we did

Book Giving Day is a tradition celebrated in Armenia on February 19, the birthday of the renowned Armenian poet and writer Hovhannes Tumanyan. Established in 2008, the initiative encourages people to gift books to friends, family, and children as a way of promoting reading, literature, and cultural values. Inspired by this initiative launched by the Rotaract Club of Baghramyan Yerevan, our club joined the celebration by organizing a small reading activity for our members. Each member brought a copy of their favorite book, and all the books were placed together in a pyramid. Members then randomly selected a book from the collection to read, giving everyone the opportunity to discover a new story recommended by someone else. The activity was a simple yet meaningful way to celebrate Book Giving Day while encouraging reading and sharing our love for books with one another.
