A diabetes awareness and testing initiative organized with DiaLeb to support displaced families in schools across the Zgharta region.
What we did
In collaboration with DiaLeb, the Rotaract Club of Zgharta Zawie organized a diabetes awareness and testing initiative for displaced families living in schools across the Zgharta region. Over two days, our team visited several schools hosting displaced families, offering free diabetes testing and raising awareness about the importance of early detection and healthy habits. The initiative primarily focused on adults, while also accommodating children with diabetes when requested by their families. With the support of medical volunteers and a local clinic that provides free healthcare to displaced families, we were able to test around 350 individuals. A doctor was also present during the testing to answer questions and provide immediate medical guidance when needed. The collected data was shared with the clinic to allow follow-up support for individuals identified as at risk or diagnosed with diabetes. Through this project, we aimed not only to address immediate health concerns but also to promote long-term awareness and preventive care within the community.
